ATS basics in plain language
Large employers often store applications in an applicant tracking system. That system helps teams search, filter, and advance candidates. Your résumé still needs to read well to a human—but confusing layouts, text locked in images, or vague skill claims can hurt both parsers and tired recruiters.
FitCV does not claim to “beat” every ATS. Job alignment and résumé review give you structured signals and plain-language notes so you can fix high-leverage issues before you spend another week guessing. For deeper context, read the blog posts on ATS screening and reading job postings.
Frequently asked questions
- Is FitCV free?
- Yes. Core résumé review, job alignment, practice assessments, and the blog do not require a paid plan or account. The site may show third-party ads to keep the tools free.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No. You can upload a résumé or start a practice test without signing up. Assessments ask for a name and email so we can optionally send a short results summary.
- What files can I upload?
- Use a text-extractable résumé (commonly PDF). Very image-heavy scans may parse poorly—prefer a clean digital CV.
- What happens to my résumé?
- FitCV uses your file to run the analysis you request in that session. We do not sell your résumé or use it to train outside models. See the Privacy Policy for retention and sharing details.
- Is the score a hiring decision?
- No. Scores and notes are automated guidance to help you iterate. Employers make their own decisions with their own tools and criteria.
- Are the practice tests official certifications?
- No. Aptitude, verbal, numerical, SJT, and related tracks are educational practice for common hiring screens—not clinical, licensed, or certification exams.
- What is an ATS?
- Applicant tracking systems store and filter applications at scale. Clean structure, clear section headings, and evidence that matches the role help both parsers and human skimmers.
- Job alignment vs résumé review—which should I use?
- Use job alignment when you know the industry, role, and skills you are targeting. Use résumé review when you want a document-first pass without locking a specific posting yet.
- How do I contact FitCV?
- Use Help in the header menu, the Contact page, or email [email protected].
